FOUNDED BY THE SEA. KEPT BY THE FOG.

THE HISTORY OF OULBURY

SETTLED IN 1405

BETWEEN TWO SHORES

Somewhere between eastern Canada and the British Isles lies Oulbury, an isolated island beyond the routes most maps remember. Settled in 1405, the town grew around its harbor and eventually formed a government of its own.

The O Ferry remains its only dependable connection to the outside world, crossing the surrounding waters whenever the fog allows it.Oulbury exists in the present, but isolation has left time uneven here. Modern technology has reached the island, though much of everyday life still carries the fading character of the 1980s and 1990s.

Old customs survive beside ordinary routines, and traditions continue long after their original purpose has been forgotten. The ferry has brought generations of residents, visitors, and strangers to its shore... but not every arrival can be explained.

Beneath the town’s quiet history lies another, shaped by ancient Orders, supernatural bloodlines, and fragile agreements made to protect the island from what waits beyond the shore. In Oulbury, history is never truly past and the fog rarely returns what it takes unchanged.
THE WINDSOR LEGACY

Some families inherit a name. The windsors an island.

For generations, the Windsor name has been woven through Oulbury’s government, institutions, and public memory. Their history is preserved in official records, repeated in family traditions, and carved into a town that has learned to associate their presence with continuity. To some, the Windsors are protectors: a family carrying responsibilities few outsiders could understand. To others, they represent an old system in which power, knowledge, and carefully guarded secrets are passed through blood before they are ever entrusted to the public.
Augusta Windsor inherited more than a political office. As Mayor, she became the visible center of an island held together by tradition, fragile alliances, and truths that could not safely be spoken aloud.

THE LONGEST NIGHT

When the sun dissapears, Oulbury locks it's doors.

Once every year, the sun disappears above Oulbury.
For four or five days, the island remains town remains trapped beneath under an unnatural darkness.

Temperatures fall below freezing, familiar streets become unrecognizable, and the fog draws closer to every occupied home.

During the day, residents residents prepare. Doors are reinforced, supplies are shared, and a white candle is placed in every window. But between midnight and six in the morning, the curfew is absolute.

Do not go outside. Do not open the door. Do not look through the window. Do not listen to the voices beyond it. Stay alive.

BENEATH THE ORDINARY

What lives here.
What keeps contained.

Oulbury is inhabited by forces older than its streets and protected by institutions that do not always agree on what protection requires.

Power, faith, duty, and survival exist in a balance that grows more fragile every year.

Oulbury’s supernatural lineages were created specifically for the island. Each carries its own origins, abilities, limitations, and consequences. They are neither heroes nor monsters by nature, but surviving among humans often requires secrecy, restraint, and difficult choices.

ORDER, DUTY & SECRECY

THE ONES WHO HOLD THE LINE

Oulbury survives because someone always answers the call. The Constabulary protects its streets, medical and emergency personnel care for its people, and far beyond public knowledge the Custodians confront the dangers that cannot be named. They do not share the same authority, methods or understanding of the island, but together they preserve the fragile order upon which Oulbury depends.

THE PACT OF SALT

THREE ORDERS. ONE UNBROKEN OATH.

The Pact of Salt is a hidden covenant devoted to preserving the fragile boundary between Oulbury and the Veil. Divided into three Orders, it safeguards forbidden knowledge, maintains the rites surrounding The Longest Night, and intervenes when supernatural forces threaten the island’s balance. Its purpose is not extermination, but containment, secrecy and survival. Most residents know only the customs it left behind. Few know the hands that still enforce them.
